| Girls dominate boys in Inter 1st year. Posted: 21 Apr 2011 10:07 PM PDT Girls dominate boys in Inter 1st year. HYDERABAD: Pass percentage of students in the first year of the Intermediate Public Examinations (IPE) has gone up by 3.65 per cent compared to IPE-2010. The results of the Intermediate first year were announced by minister for secondary education, K Parthasarathi here on Thursday. The overall pass percentage for regular courses in IPE-2010 was 48.56%, while this year, it has climbed to 52.21%, the minister said. A total of 8.5 lakh candidates had appeared for the examination, which was conducted from March 7. Students of government junior colleges too improved their performance in the public examination this year with 41.62% of them clearing the test, compared to last year’s figures of 37.27%. While girls continued their dominance over boys. A total of 56.61% girl students cleared the exam this year while the boys returned with a slightly lesser percentage of 45.85%. Over 1.6 lakh students got A grade (above 75% marks) in the state, the minister said. Students from the city, also fared well when compared to the previous year with a pass percentage of 52%. Speaking at the results release function, minister K Parthasarathi said that government will try to improve the pass percentage of students in the coming academic year. “There will be programmes and measures introduced to improve the pass percentage. We are, however, glad that the percentage of students has been increasing since the past two years by an average of 2.5 per cent,” the minister said. Ironically, this year, the state government had published the marks of students, who cleared IPE as against the rules of grading. “While grading was introduced to prevent college managements from publicising their results for future admissions and to bring down pressure on students. This year, four government websites have displayed marks along with grades. Colleges have also advertised their `rank’ holders,” said an official from BIE. However, since the marks were displayed by only a few select websites, students were seen queuing up before the e-seva centres for a quick look at their marks lists. Advanced supplementary examinations for failed candidates will be held on May 27. The last date of payment of examination fee for this examination is May 3. Source : TOI |
