| 73 score 0, 26 of them ‘qualify’ EAMCET exam Posted: 09 Jun 2011 01:52 AM PDT 73 score 0, 26 of them 'qualify' EAMCET exam June 8: As many as 26 students out of the 73 students who got zero marks in all subjects were declared "qualified" in Eamcet this year. Of them, 17 have qualified in the engineering stream and nine in the medical stream. However, the nine who have "qualified" in the medical stream, cannot take admission into medical colleges. This is because the Medical Council of India stipulates that candidates must get a minimum of 50 per cent marks in Eamcet and in BiPC subjects in Intermediate before being eligible for admissions into medical colleges. They can, however, take admissions into agriculture and veterinary colleges. Meanwhile, those qualifying for the engineering stream can enter engineering colleges as no minimum marks are stipulated for the SC/ST students and the state has 2.85 lakh seats to offer. The 73 students who got zero marks had handed over blank papers to the invigilators. For the general category, the total marks in Eamcet are 160 and the qualifying mark is 25 per cent of the total. |
| Chaitanya, Narayana students top Eamcet Posted: 09 Jun 2011 01:50 AM PDT Chaitanya, Narayana students top Eamcet June 8: Students of Sri Chaitanya dominated the Eamcet results both in the engineering and the medical streams, the results of which were announced on Wednesday. Sri Chaitanya students Nalla Pratyush and Chilakamurthy Sasank shared top honours with Narayana student Nagam Prasanth in the engineering stream by securing the highest marks of 155 out of 159. Of the top-10 scorers in the engineering stream, eight were from Sri Chaitanya and two from Narayana. In the medical stream, Sri Chaitanya students made a clean sweep by bagging all the top-10 ranks. While none of the girls could make it to the top-10 list in engineering, the girls swept the medical results by bagging six of the top 10 ranks. Of the 2,69,988 students who appeared for the engineering exam across the state, 2,22,857 qualified, recording a pass percentage of 82.54. In the medical exam, out of 65,736 students who appeared for the exam, 55,995 were declared qualified, recording a pass percentage of 85.18. Eamcet ranks will be announced in the first week of July. In the engineering stream, Sri Chaitanya students P. Avinash and K. Harsha Vardhan secured 154 marks, while A. Surya Kiran, M. Tarun Kumar Reddy and P. Sai Chaitanya, all from Sri Chaitanya scored 153 marks each. In the medical stream, the top 10 marks were bagged by Sri Chaitanya students. M. Himaja secured the highest marks — 158 out of 159 — while N. Uma Maheshwari and N. Snehitha got 157 marks each. Similarly, Roda Faith got 155 marks, while S. Kamini, G. Shiva Jaswanth, R. Sunny, Md. Salman, AGV Naresh and Laxmi Pravalika got 154 marks each. In the engineering stream, Narayana students B. Sree Kalyani, and A. Raghavendra Kiran secured 153 marks each, while V. Shaimik Reddy got 152 marks. K. Rithwik got 151 marks, while P. Saketh Manikanta, S. Venkata Sravani, G. Pranay and P. Jayavardhan Reddy secured 149 marks each. A. Sarat Chandra got 148 marks. The minister for higher and technical education Mr Damodara Raj Narasimha, said that the Eamcet engineering counselling will be held from the third week of July and the classes for first year students will begin from August 16. |
| Posted: 09 Jun 2011 01:47 AM PDT June 8: Nagam Prasanth, the son of an illiterate mason in Visakhapatnam, topped Eamcet in the engineering stream with 157 out of 159 marks. Interestingly, the success story of last year's Eamcet topper Md Gousejani, son of an autorickshaw driver from his own district, had inspired Prasanth. "Gousejani was my senior. We both studied at Narayana College in Vizag. He is now with Andhra University Engineering College. I was inspired by his achievement of topping the Eamcet last year. Since then, I have been regularly in touch with him. He guided me on the mode of preparation to achieve the top rank. It worked out and I will remain thankful to Gousejani for that," added Prasanth who had scored 968 out of 1,000 in Intermediate exams this year. His sister Mahalaxmi is pursuing B.Tech in Vizag. M. Himaja, the topper in the medical stream with 158 out of 159 marks, is the daughter of Mr M.V. Satyanarayana Murthy, a telecom mechanic in BSNL. A student of Sri Chaitanya, she had secured 976 out of 1,000 in Intermediate exams this year. Students from two institutions excelled in this years' Eamcet. Of the top-10 scorers in the engineering stream, eight students were from Sri Chaitanya while the remaining two were from Narayana. Source:DC |
