| JNTU students’ research work to be put online. Posted: 05 Sep 2011 11:19 PM PDT JNTU students’ research work to be put online. HYDERABAD: Research scholars of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad will now be able to get their work examined and reviewed in international forums. The JNTU has taken an initiative according to which thesis submitted by university students will be put online for international access from this academic year. The thesis will be first checked for plagiarism and later uploaded to the web portal, “Shodhganga”. The new project is initiated by the research and development cell of the university. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) center of the University Grants Commission, Ahmedabad and JNTU on September 3. According to JNTU officials, the project would help students from the university to have an interaction with international scholars. The INFLIBNET is a forum where academic and scholarly work of students and faculty members of the country are shared to be later accessed by experts from outside the country. JNTU is the first technical university from the state to go for such a reform, officials said. Even dissertations of students can be uploaded on this portal. “This project is aimed at giving international exposure to students and to help them get good jobs. Even industry majors could be looking at good research work online to implement in their companies. JNTU being one of the leading technological universities there could be a lot of takers for projects from here,” said Prof K Lal Kishore, director of the research and development cell, JNTU-H. The university has started implementing plagiarism check for their masters and PhD theses. “We run the thesis through a software that detects plagiarized content. Hence the material that gets uploaded online will be a hundred percent original,” said Kishore. Source : TOI ||| FirstRanker.com ||| - JNTU Hyderabad - JNTU Kakinada - JNTU Anantapur | |||
| Posted: 05 Sep 2011 11:16 PM PDT Economic downturn in the US and the unpredictability of its markets is compelling IT companies to venture into hitherto unexplored markets of Africa, Singapore, Sri Lanka and West Asia. 'De-risking' is the new mantra for diversifying business to different locations for reducing the risk. "The flip-flop situation in the US will have more of an indirect effect on the industry here. It is likely that the effect will not be severe on Indian IT companies. But since the US industry will have to cut down their expenses in the near future, there will be pressure for outsourcing," said the FAPCCI secretary, Mr Rajeshwar Rao. "As the US accounts for 60 per cent of the IT business, the situation has triggered a new wave of caution and change in target destinations among Indian companies. The shift in focus, apart from being a survival action-plan by the IT companies back home, was also met with a growing need for developing IT infrastructure in developing nations," said a member of the IT and ITES association. | Posted: 05 Sep 2011 11:13 PM PDT Students pursuing dental courses in the state will have to undergo a mandatory one-year internship from this year before getting their Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree. The internship will also include a three-month compulsory rural posting. This decision of the Dental Council of India (DCI) has been communicated to the state government. The four-year BDS course will have an additional one-year internship. Though the new rule comes into effect from this academic year (2011-12), it will be applicable for batches admitted in the 2008-09 session. But students of an earlier batch, admitted in 2007-08 and now in their fifth and final year, want the internship year to apply to them as well. On Monday, they took out a rally to Indira Park to press their demand. According to officials of the NTR University of Health Sciences, which governs the medical and dental colleges in the state, the Union health minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, has recently approved the re-introduction of a one-year rotational, compulsory and paid internship in the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course. Internship for BDS courses was introduced in 1992 but abolished in 2007, when the BDS degree course was made a five-year 'complete classroom course', without any hands-on training with patients. There were allegations that the strong private dental colleges lobby had pressurised the government to drop the internship at that time. However, it has been found that students who completed the BDS course since 2007 lack practical knowledge because of the abolition of the internship. There are about 1,800 BDS seats in the state in 21 dental colleges. Source : DC ||| FirstRanker.com ||| - JNTU Hyderabad - JNTU Kakinada - JNTU Anantapur | |||
| Frauds by fake IT firms continue. Posted: 05 Sep 2011 11:11 PM PDT Frauds by fake IT firms continue. The issue of sham IT companies keeps resurfacing, but till now there is no way to ensure that such companies are nabbed before the frauds are committed. There have been at least five to six such cases in the past year, like the latest 'Prodigy Solutions,' indicate officials. The Madhapur police is searching for more records of the fake IT company called Prodigy Solutions, that shut shop on Saturday after duping around 30,000 employees of their deposit money, ranging between Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. The fraud was masterminded by the CEO, Murali Radhakrishna; Srikar Reddy, Head of the Visakhapatnam branch; and head of the company's Warangal Branch, Srikanth Reddy. The trio went missing a week ago. "We are tracking the mobile records of these three officials who are absconding and are trying to trace them," said the Madhapur Inspector, Mr Lakshmikanth Reddy. While the IT minister has promised legal action against the proprietor, the industry remains at the mercy of such fraudsters as there is no background verification process in place for the proprietors of IT companies. Moreover, with the state government's thrust on the IT sector, a number of companies keep launching operations and it is difficult to keep track of them. "It is up to the job seekers to verify the background of the companies. For instance in this case when the company had asked for deposit money, that was the time the investors should have understood that this is not the norm in the industry and should have done a background check," said IT and ITES Association President, Mr L. Suresh. Police suspects that Prodigy Solutions' CEO Murali Radhakrishna, might have absconded with at least Rs 16 crore collected from 1,600 B.Tech students and security deposits of employees, ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
