| Posted: 22 Oct 2011 08:25 PM PDT Engineering colleges are making last ditch efforts to sell seats. Managements are offering B.Tech seats for just Rs 60,000 for the entire four-year course. In addition to this, many colleges are offering free transport and hostel accommodation at subsidised price. The government has given additional time to the managements to fill seats due to the Sakala Janula Samme. Earlier, the deadline for filling the seats through conducting spot admissions was October 15. However, the government has extended the deadline to October 31 as per the request of the managements who argued that they could not conduct spot admissions as the colleges were closed due to the Sakala Janula Samme from September 13. Be it convenor quota or management quota, the price remains the same. As per the fee structure prescribed by the government, the tuition fee for a convenor quota seat is Rs 31,000 per annum, while it is Rs 95,000 for a management quota seat. Despite conducting two phases of Eamcet engineering counselling, 84,971 seats out of the 1,92,944 seats remained vacant. | No surprises on first day of CAT. Posted: 22 Oct 2011 08:20 PM PDT No surprises on first day of CAT. The online Common Admission Test (CAT) of the IIMs went off smoothly on the first day at the two centres in the city. A majority of the students who appeared for the exam on the first day on Saturday said the paper was easy, and had no surprises, while some students said the paper was slightly difficult. Some students were of the view that the first section, which contains quantitative ability and data interpretation was slightly more difficult than the second section which had verbal ability, reading comprehension and logical reasoning. Students felt that section-II was marginally easier than the first section as there were enough sets of logical reasoning, which were easy. However, the students refused to comment on record saying that the 'non-disclosure agreement' with IIMs prohibits them from talking about the exam paper and exam pattern. According to CAT coaching experts, all the students were not given the same question papers even in the same slot. They said some students got data sufficiency questions in the paper in the first slot and some others did not. They said the number of questions in each area of verbal ability also varied. About 15,000 students from Andhra Pradesh registered for CAT this year. The exam was held at the MLR Institute of Technology, Dundigal and at Prometric Testing Pvt. Ltd, Banjara Hills. The exam for students in the first slot was held from 10 am and for the second slot from 3.15 pm. The exam lasted 140 minutes this year compared to 135 minutes last year. According to data from the IIMs, the number of CAT aspirants this year is estimated at 2.05 lakh. There are around 3000 seats in the IIMs. Source : DC ||| FirstRanker.com ||| - JNTU Hyderabad - JNTU Kakinada - JNTU Anantapur |
