| States with fewer colleges produce better engineers. Posted: 02 Nov 2011 01:31 AM PDT States with fewer colleges produce better engineers. Hyderabad, Nov 02 : A.P. has 721 engg. colleges with 12.73 p.c. employment, while Jharkhand has 17 colleges with 39.63 p.c. employment. Just 12.73 per cent of engineering students of the State get employed in IT services and 1.24 per cent in the IT product services compared to 39.63 per cent and 14.32 per cent respectively in a 'backward’ state like Jharkhand. Andhra Pradesh has 721 engineering colleges while Jharkhand has just 17 colleges. The figures might look startling but the states with large number of colleges suffer with low employable quality of candidates while small states with very few engineering colleges produce better engineers, according to a study by Aspiring Minds, a leading employability measurement company. The research assumes importance in the wake of all the States asking the AICTE not to permit more engineering colleges. Bigger states like Tamil Nadu and Maharasthra face a similar problem. In Tamil Nadu employability in IT services is just 8.33 per cent for its 595 colleges and in Maharashtra it is 14.28 per cent for its 469 colleges. In comparison Delhi has 35 colleges while 39.76 per cent of candidates are employable in IT services while Himachal Pradesh has 21 colleges with 39.88 per cent candidates employable. The research is based on employability scores of over three lakh students. Tamil Nadu with more than 550 engineering schools has only one in every 12 engineers employable for an IT services company, while states like Rajasthan and Punjab with colleges between 100 and 200 have one in every five engineers employable. In Bihar and Jharkhand one in every three engineers are employable and they have only 35 colleges. The study concludes that candidates with no bent of mind for engineering studies are joining just because of the availability of seats thus lowering the value of engineers. "These findings clearly point out that opening more number of colleges is not the solution but improving skills. In fact, more colleges are creating a higher percent of unemployable engineers leading to social risks of frustration among 'qualified’ engineers," feels Himanshu Aggarwal, Co-Founder and Director of Aspiring Minds. "Research last year had pointed out that only four per cent engineers are employable in IT product and 18 per cent in IT services." TN with more than 550 engg. colleges has one in every 12 engineers employable in IT services. Rajasthan, Punjab with colleges between 100 and 200 have one in every 5 engineers employable Source : The Hindu ||| FirstRanker.com ||| - JNTU Hyderabad - JNTU Kakinada - JNTU Anantapur | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 4,000 register online for IIT-JEE on first day. Posted: 02 Nov 2011 01:28 AM PDT 4,000 register online for IIT-JEE on first day. Hyderabad, Nov 02 : Nearly 4,000 students registered online for the IIT Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) on the first day of the registration. However, a note on the IIT website said that candidates who have registered and filled the online application forms before 10.15 a.m. on October 31 must register and fill the online application forms once again. The IIT-JEE, which will be held on April 8, next year has two modes of registration. Candidates interested in registering online can do it before December 10 this year while for those who prefer offline mode applications will be sold from November 11 to December 5. The last date for submission of forms is December 15. The IIT Kanpur is conducting the test this year for admissions into 15 IITs. The exam will have quite a few changes this year and an important one is that candidates have to score a minimum of 10 p.c. marks in all the three subjects and a minimum aggregate of 35 p.c. to be eligible for the common rank list. This year a separate rank list will be prepared for OBC, and SC and ST candidates. The OBCs will get a relaxation of 10 p.c.in the minimum marks to clear the test. AICTE has given permission for 6 management quota seats out of total 18 this year. Remaining 12 seats are filled via councelling. For more details regarding management quota for the year 2011-2012 click M.Tech B category seats for the academic year 2011-2012. Those people who failed to attend PGECET and GATE exam may consider joining via management quota if interested. GATE qualified students need to apply for PGEC to get admission into various PG courses offered by colleges in Andhra Pradesh. After filling the seats by GATE qualified candidates via PGEC counseling the remaining vacant seats will be filled by PGECET 2011 qualified candidates. A.P. State Council Of Higher Education (APSCHE) Hyderabad has released notification for PGEC Admissions 2011.
Applications are invited from the GATE/GPAT qualified candidates for admission into M.E./M.Tech./M.Pharm./M.Arch/M.Plg. /Graduate Level Pharm D (P.B.) (Full Time) in University and Affiliated Engineering & Pharmacy Colleges in A.P. to be conducted by Osmania University. The vacant seats if any after admitting GATE/GPAT qualified candidates will be filled with the candidates based on the Rank Secured in the PGECET-2011. This means applying through PGEC 2011 is mandatory to get admitted in engineering colleges of AP. If you have not qualified GATE then go for PGECET. Eligibility Criteria: Scholarships: Application Fee: Important Dates: For more details please visit the PGEC Admissions 2011 or PGEC 2011 Notification for M.Tech official site www.apschepgec.net If you want to know the updated and latest list of colleges in Andhra Pradesh offering M.Tech and total number of seats in each branch then click on List of Engineering Colleges offering M.Tech in AP.
A.P. State Council of Higher Education, Government of A.P invites applications for appearing at the Post-Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test (PGECET) for admission into M.E./M.Tech./M.Pharm Degree Courses for the academic year 2011-2012 in the all Universities in A.P and their affiliated colleges. Sale of Application Forms and Fee:
Online Submission: Important Dates: For PGECET preparation there are no model papers available on the official site. However the questions will be of GATE standard. So get ready with your GATE material. There is an excellent book for Computer Science students for PGECET. The book is titled "Multiple Choice Questions Computer Science" by author "Timothy Williams". I recommend this book for preparation. For more details regarding PGECET visit the official link PGECET 2011 This year i.e. 2011 Counselling will be conducted online via http://pgecet.apsche.ac.in. But you need to verify your certificates offline at various help centers. Here is the list of helpline centers. Here is the schedule for decentralised certificate verification. Processing fee for Certificate Verification 2011: Last year i.e. 2010 the PGECET/PGEC admission procedure is conducted online via http://appgecet.nic.in. Candidates have to verify their certificates online via help centers. The certificate verification process was started very lately i.e. on 28.10.2010 and ended on 30.10.2010. With in these 3 days all the candidates including GATE qualified and PGECET qualified have to verify their certificates. This is all for year 2010. Tution Fee per Annum/Semester: Soon we are coming with more updates. So if you want to get latest updates regarding to PGECET 2011 and PGEC 2011 counseling dates then like us on facebook. Many students are asking for last year ranks cutoff. I don't have database regarding last year ranks. So I am helpless. List of certificates to be carried while attending the counselling :Students who are going to attend PGECET 2011 counselling please read this post. Here is the list of certificates you need to carry in original while attending for counselling: 1. GATE scorecard 2011 or 2010 and Hallticket of GATE exam. Otherwise who are attending counselling via PGECET need to carry PGECET 2011 rank card and hallticket. Remember previous year caste certificates will not be considered for OBC. So have a new one. This year also students belonging economic backward classes i.e. Students whose parental income is less than 1 lakh per annum need not have to pay the tution fees. So get your income certificate also. Also many students are asking for best colleges for doing M.Tech. It is hard to give info regarding to this because many students don't bother for college reagrding M.Tech. They just prefer college which is nearer to them. But still getting a good university matters a lot. I am not considering IIT Hyderabad and NIT Warangal because they don't come under PGECET counseling. Of course these two are the best in AP. Some of the remaining best colleges you can prefer are: 1. JNTUH Hyderabad One more point regarding to PGECET rank holders. Many students are asking via comments and mailing me that, In which college they can get seat based on their rank. At first I just once again want to clarify that atmost priority is given to GATE qualified students and remaining vacant seats are filled by PGECET students. Even having PGECET 1st rank may not make you get admitted into top college like JNTU Hyderabad unless you have reservation. So be prepared to your choice list. I cannot clarify each and every comment personally due to lack of time. So please be patient. But somebody may clarify your doubt. Please verify all the comments before posting your comment. Repeated comments will be deleted automatically. Here is the list of engineering colleges offering M.Tech courses in Andhra Pradesh. The list is useful to students who want to pursue post graduate course in colleges of Andhra Pradesh. List of Engineering Colleges in Andhra Pradesh : |

IIM Kozhikode to protect students from Inflation.

IIM Kozhikode to protect students from Inflation.
Bengaluru : In what would be an unprecedented step, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee Director of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K) has decided to roll back IIMK tuition fees by Rs. 30,000 for its flagship Post Graduate Programme to protect students from the inflationary pressures in the economy.
Prof. Chatterjee said, “We have observed that during the last two years the student loan rates have increased between 2 to 4% per annum putting additional burden on the students. As a socially conscientious institute, IIMK believes that its students be protected from steep increase in fee as most of our students avail student loans for their studies. Ten percent of our students come from families that have an annual income of Rs. 1 lakh or less. Hence, I have convinced my Board that we will implement a marginal reduction of Rs 30,000 (i.e. 3% of the fee) from the year 2012-13 onwards as a small proactive step to support higher education system in the country. This reduction of Rs 30,000 will result in a loss of revenue to the tune of Rs 1.2 Crore to IIMK. We will also be increasing our PGP intake to 400 students from the Academic Year 2012-13, in spite of serious constraints in our infrastructure and acute water scarcity. This will offset the reduction in our income.”
In addition to the reduction in fee, the IIMK Director is proposing to introduce a group of scholarships to support high achievers and contributors to the cause of India. Accordingly it is proposed to introduce the following scholarships:
a) Full Fee waiver to 1% of students having proven record of excellence in academics, sports, extracurricular or social activities through awards or recognitions at national or international level.
b) Full fee waiver of children of martyrs belonging to military, para?military or police force who had sacrificed their lives during action while protecting the pride and honor of the
nation. Half fee waiver will be granted to children of defense or allied services who were injured during action and lost their earning capacity.
c) Partial Fee waiver for all students who gets admitted under the Persons with Disability category.
These three scholarships are in tune with the Institute’s mission of being sensitive and supportive to the larger needs of the society. The total outflow for these scholarships works out to be Rs 1.6 Crores. IIM Kozhikode has pioneered among many other reforms in the IIM system, a dramatic shift in the intake of female students across all IIMs including the new IIMs.
Last year IIM Kozhikode had 35% female students in its batch of 320 students?the highest ever percentage of female students in the history of the IIMs. This geographically challenged Institute was the first to start a two years globally accredited executive Post Graduate Programme through the digital media. This was the first on site program of its kind in the world to be accredited by the prestigious Association of MBAs in London.
IIM Kozhikode is planning to start an orientation program for SC/ST underprivileged students with its pioneering Center for Research and Social Transformation (CREST).
According to Prof. Chatterjee, “We measure the success of our management program based on exceptional value we create at minimum cost to the country. We create value for money as well as value for many by enhancing the nation’s social capital. IIM Kozhikode has decisively shifted its orientation from exclusive elitism to inclusive excellence.”
IIMK was the first IIM to implement affirmative action for the underprivileged even before the Government made it mandatory. Its standing as a school of excellence has not diminished but has only enhanced as result of its social orientation. As part of its capacity expansion activities, IIMK plans to launch some of the new programmes in Cochin. The present plan is to commence the programmes in 2012- 2013.

IIT JEE 2012 – 3800 applicants register Online on Day 1.
New Delhi : The gates opened yesterday, queues started forming and the race has now begun! The race to the hallowed corridors of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), through one of the most popular entrance examinations in the country, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) – IIT JEE 2012 begun on October 31, 2011 with the application forms out on sale.
Day 1 of the Online Application Process for IIT JEE 2012 saw 3,800 applicants registering themselves for the examination, to be conducted on April 8, 2012 across the country.
About 7,000 in 15 IITs are up for grabs through IIT JEE 2012, which has two modes of registration. The online mode will be active on the IIT JEE website from October 31, 2011 to December 10, 2011 and the offline mode, i.e. physical sale of application forms, will be from November 11, 2011 to December 5, 2011.
The last date for receipt of completed application forms (offline or printed copy of the Online Form) is December 15, 2011.
GB Reddy, Chairman, JEE Office said, “About 3,800 students have completed their application process on Day One. While many others have registered and not paid their application fees, their process is considered complete only when the fees is paid”.
IIT JEE 2012 will also work on a different method of qualification marks in which candidates will have to score at least 10% marks in all the three subjects and a minimum aggregate of 35% to make it to the common rank list.
A separate rank list will also be prepared for OBC and SC/ST candidates, with OBCs getting a relaxation of 10% in the minimum marks required to crack JEE 2012. Some more changes to the JEE format include allowing a candidate to circle their answers in the answer sheet using a pen instead of pencil.
The answer keys for IIT JEE 2012 will be published online at least three weeks after the examination.

Graduates reluctant to pursue M.Tech course.

Graduates reluctant to pursue M.Tech course.
Even as they are preparing to issue a notification for admissions in to M.Tech and other PG courses in November first week, the Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education officials are concerned over filling up all M.Tech seats.
The decision of All India Council for Technical Education to give permission to 145 new engineering colleges to offer M.Tech from the current academic year despite vacant seats last year has made officials opine that after the EAMCET and ICET, where huge number of seats remained vacant, the same fate might befall M.Tech seats. 364 colleges including 14 university colleges at present offer M.Tech courses.
Many colleges found it difficult to fill 100 per cent seats last year. There were 24,000 seats available and with the new approvals, the number has risen to 32,000.
The lack of interest from engineering graduates to apply for M.Tech seats can be attributed to the fact that most companies during recruitment did not give preference to M.Tech students over engineering graduates.
“What is the meaning in pursuing a PG course spending two valuable years when it gives no benefit over graduation,” S Narendar, a B.Tech graduate said.
In addition, most software companies were preferring graduates as they are younger.
The companies were of the opinion that younger people might continue for a few more years at the beginning of their career. Most candidates pursuing graduation intend to take up teaching due to huge number of engineering colleges in the state.
But they were reluctant to seek admission in M.Tech courses, as most engineering colleges are not following AICTE norms in paying salaries to faculty.
Some M.Tech graduates are being paid a mere `12,000 per month, though the AICTE norms says the salary should be more than `20,000.
Hence, engineering graduates are more likely to take up jobs in software companies after completing their B.Tech/BE and then taking up teaching as a profession.
However, students admitted pursuing M.Tech in IITs, NITs and other national level institutions after qualifying the GATE exam had better job prospects.
